New guide: how platforms turn payment data into a capital programRead it →

Meet Omar De La Rosa, our Founding Ops Partner

The person who has actually run the payroll he now helps platforms fix, and who keeps the operational reality in the room while the rest of us design.

Every fintech says it understands operations. Omar has done them.

Before Slate he was on a founding team running people operations, which in practice meant he owned payroll: transfers between countries, platform cutoffs that do not move, and the Friday where the money either lands or it does not. He wrote about that here, and it is still the piece people quote back to us.

That history shows up in his work daily. When we design a flow, Omar is the one who asks what happens when the customer taps the button at 4:58pm on a Friday, whether the person on the other end will understand the email they just got, and who has to clean it up if the answer is nobody.

What he does here

Ops Partner covers a lot of ground at our size. Onboarding a new platform, walking their team through the first live customers, being the person a partner messages when something looks odd, and turning what he learns from those conversations into changes in the product rather than notes in a document.

He is also the reason a lot of our copy sounds like a human wrote it. He is quick to flag when we start describing money the way finance people talk to each other instead of the way an owner would.

Off the clock

He plays bass, which we did not know until his photo showed up mid-set. It explains the timing.
